Where are the best golf courses in Asheville, NC?

The Omni Grove Park Inn, a historic Asheville landmark, offers a public course with national recognition and incredible views.
Public Golf Courses and Resorts in Asheville
The Asheville Municipal Golf Course is a city landmark designed by famous course architect Donald Ross in 1927. Located about five minutes from downtown Asheville, the course is par 72 and you can book tee times online here.
To experience another piece of history, play a round of golf on the course at the Omni Grove Park Inn, an Asheville landmark that has been visited by many celebrities, authors, and presidents since its construction in 1912. Designed by Donald Ross, the inn’s picturesque golf course has been praised by Conde Nast Traveler, the North Carolina Golf Panel, and Golfweek Magazine. Book tee times here.
Another great resort experience is the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort Asheville, which is located about 10 minutes from downtown. They offer spa amenities and a wide variety of outdoor activities along with their golf course. Enjoy a relaxing nine-hole game – with enough challenge to keep it interesting – and a beautiful view of the mountains.
Broadmoor Golf Links, located just south of Asheville, is the only links-style course in the region.
Golf Courses Near Asheville, NC
There are also some great golf courses just outside of Asheville’s city limits.
- To the east, visit the Black Mountain Golf Course. This course is another Donald Ross design and contains the famous 747 yard, par 6 17th hole, at one time the longest hole in the world.
- To the south, just past the Asheville Regional Airport, is Broadmoor Golf Links. Designed by Karl Litten, this is the region’s only links-style course.
- To the west, visit historic Lake Junaluska Conference & Retreat Center. You don’t have to stay at the center in order to book a tee time, and the elevated course allows guests to golf while enjoying views of the shimmering lake and surrounding mountains.
- To the north, try Wolf Laurel Country Club in Mars Hill, NC, about 30 minutes from Asheville. You can also check out Mt. Mitchell Golf Club, about an hour from Asheville. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, this course is located at the base of Mt. Mitchell and has a river flowing throughout.

Private and Semi-Private Golf Courses in Asheville

The Country Club of Asheville was founded in 1894, and its 6,638 yard, par 71 golf course was designed by Donald Ross in 1928. Members of this club enjoy this course as well as 13 others from Knoxville to Myrtle Beach, due to the club’s affiliation with McConnell Golf. The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is a residential community located in Arden, NC, about 20 minutes from downtown Asheville. In addition to luxury homes, the community boasts a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus with a beautiful view of the mountains. The award-winning course was ranked among America’s best residential courses by Golfweek and listed as one of the best courses in North Carolina by Golf Digest. Asheville Disc Golf Courses
If disc golf is more your speed, try these courses around the Asheville area. The Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course is located in northeast Asheville (as part of the city parks and recreation system) and has great reviews written by disc golfers. Mini Golf Courses in Asheville
For a night out with the family, there’s nothing like mini golf to combine quality time and some challenging fun. Tropical Gardens Mini Golf is located on Patton Avenue (near downtown Asheville) and features the traditional mini golf format (complete with wacky statues, of course). They also offer batting cages for baseball and softball fans. If you’d prefer an option in South Asheville, try the Lakeview Putt and Play, which has four virtual reality game rooms in addition to its mini golf course.
