Several Asheville area high schools have received high rankings in U.S. News and World Report’s 2014 Rankings. The report includes Charter, Magnet, and Public high schools throughout North Carolina. Schools were graded on four categories – Student/Teacher Ratio, College Readiness, Algebra Proficiency, and English Proficiency.
Buncombe and Henderson Counties had four schools ranked in the top 20 for the state of North Carolina, as well as several more just outside the Top 20.

- #12 A. C. Reynolds High School (Asheville, NC)
- #17 Charles D. Owen High School (Black Mountain, NC)
- #20 Enka High School (Candler, NC)
